Highlight of 2004 was the trip of me and a bunch of friends of mine to southern Belgium and northern France, where we visited some awesome dragonfly localities. Most spectacular were Epitheca bimaculata and Leucorrhinia caudalis, species with an eastern distribution that are extremely rare in my part of the world. Both species are absent in the Netherlands nowadays.
Another highlight was a weekend trip with pretty much the same group to Limburg, the southernmost region of our country. There we visited among others a small river, De Roer, which has proven to be a succesful reproduction spot for two of our country's rarest Gomphidae: Ophiogomphus cecilia and Onychogomphus forcipatus. We didn't see the former, but were able to get a clear view and excellent photo opportunities of the latter.
