Aeshna juncea, female
Aeshna juncea (female)
English name: Common Hawker
Dutch name: Venglazenmaker
Photo taken in Röjdåfors, Sweden,

Note: This species is easilly mixed up with Aeshna subarctica. A. juncea was first described in Europe (by Linnaeus, 1758). In 1908, Walker described A. subarctica in the USA. It was thought that A. juncea was purely European and A. subarctica purely American. Then someone looked closely to the A. subarctica populations in the USA and found A. junceas among them. Still later, someone found A. subarctica in Europe as well!
