Coenagrion armatum, male
Coenagrion armatum (male)
English name: Norfolk Damselfly
Dutch name: Donkere waterjuffer
Photo taken at the Weerribben (NL),
8th of May, 1999

Note: Ever since 1956, this species was considered to be extinct from the Netherlands, as it's extinct from most Western European countries. And where it isn't extinct (yet), it's rare!
As the nearest population known is hundreds of kilometers away from the Weerribben, and as the last time (1956) this species was seen in the Netherlands was also in the Weerribben, it's thought that the species didn't extinct from the Netherlands at all. Nobody just watched at the right place at the right time. Which is difficult, as the area this species live is protected and the flight period of C. armatum is very short.
