Note: like it's slightly larger relative Ischnura elegans, I. pumilio females occur in a few color forms:

  1. typica: light parts of the thorax are olive green, rarely blue.
  2. aurantiaca: light parts are bright orange (see picture). This form changes into typica after about a week.
