Lestes dryas, male
Lestes dryas (male)
English name:Scarce Emerald Damselfly
Dutch name:Tangpantserjuffer
Photo taken at the Kampina, NB, the
Netherlands, August 1999

Note: Looks a lot like Lestes sponsa, but:

  • Lestes dryas is not only a bit larger than L. sponsa, but looks quite more robust.
  • Segment 2 of L. dryas is less pruinose than that of L. sponsa: only 2/3 of the segment is pruinose, with a clear border.
  • The appendices inferiores are spoonlike and bend towards each other. Those of L. sponsa are straight and therefore parallel.
