Note: Lestes virens is the smallest European Lestes. It completely lacks pruinosity on segment 2, which is a different with the slightly similar (but larger) Lestes dryas and Lestes sponsa. Another difference with those species is the coloration on the top of the head: the front of the head (looking from above) is metallic green, the back is yellow. With L. sponsa and L. dryas, the head is all green.
