Note: Much more blue than Orthetrum cancellatum or O. albistylum. Can only be mistaken for O. coerulescens. Differences: O. brunneum has a white or blueish face, red pterostigmas, mature males always have a pruinose thorax and no antehumeral stripes. O. coerulescens has a brownish face, yellowish pterostigmas, rarely a densely pruinose thorax and grey antehumeral stripes.
