Dutch name:Bruine winterjuffer
Photos taken at the Zwartven, Luyksgestel,
NB (NL), 24th of April 2000 (upper photo) and
Stevensbergen, NB (NL), 27th of February 2000

Note: Damselflies of the genus Sympecma (containing only 2 European species), are the only Odonata surviving winter. They hibernate but on a warm winter day, they become active and can be found flying. This species is not very common in Western Europe (has in fact never been seen in the UK), but gets abundant to the Southeast (and is the most common odonate in Hungary!).
