Note: this beautiful dragonfly can be distinguished from other Onychogomphus species the easiest by looking at the appendages (see lower photo): the lower appendage looks like a "J" turned 90 degrees clockwise, whereas the lower appendage of O. flexuosus looks almost like a tilde (~).
